That mark above the date is really bothering me if it's on the coin.

Even though there is a bit of weakness on the O, this is a very good strike for a 24-D. They are very noted for poor strikes. Also, it has more red than my picture shows - kind of a deep cherry red. It has descent luster on most of the coin and in essence, only one nick, but that is a fair sized nick. It is actually very hard to see in hand without a loupe. A lot of that is probably because the scratch if not fresh and shiny, but it is also not deep. Without that scratch, I think it probably would have gone 64. However, PCGS gave it a 63 and that is probably accurate.

I went 64 hoping that nick wasn't as bad as it looked in the photos.

PCGS did a good job but for me personally, I'd call that coin a 64. I prefer to weigh my grading to the number of hits and this coin is clean. It also has an awesome strike for a 24D and it's looks to be just a pleasant example of a scarce coin. When I go to shows I never see 24D's this nice if at all.

Another odd thing about this coin....the left wheat is weak. That is a rare event, for some reason the old "non-parallel dies" problem usually only affects the right wheat. The problem also affected the hair around the back of the head.
