I'm not the best at Lincolns. 65/66 is my guess full red of course. Pretty coin!

tough one for me.... gut says 66,, and gut is usually 1 low... but I just don't get the 67 punch when I look at this coin... so, for once, I'll stick with my gut, and thereby ensure this cent makes 67.
    Your welcome.

A good example of where the TPGs and I part company. While I believe those marks are the result of the minting process they destroy the eye appeal of the coin IMO thus rendering it unworthy of the GEM or above grade. I realize that few others feel the way I do regarding this subject, nonetheless that is my personal opinion.

Question for you though Dick, why are you refering to these marks as die scratches instead of die polishing marks, which is what they are ?

I was the first to respond to this thread last night and ,since I subscribe to all threads I respond to, I received an e-mail alerting me that other responses had been posted. Here is the message that I get when I click on the e-mail link......also, both my post and vote have been deleted. Have I offended someone by voting ms-67?

Sorry, most of that is my mistake. You actually have not voted on this thread. You were the first to vote on a thread of this title, but I messed up and forgot to make the poll public. I put several notes in the old thread asking you (and others) to vote in this thread and stated that the old thread was useless. Apparently one of the moderators decided that he should get rid of the old thread because it is now gone. So you are trying to access a thread of the same title that is no longer accessible. That is why you are getting that error message.

Please accept my apology and vote again in this thread.

Since rlm made a mistake in his first thread #50, and tried to explain that members should ignore that thread and vote in this one instead - I removed it for him to keep things simple for him and you guys.

Confusion (on my part) is cleared up and Richard, no apology needed. Again, I vote for '67.

    Thankyou gentlemen.....:)

Nice coin i voted 67 because of booming luster, and above average strike. Question, those horizontal lines in the reverse are from die polishing, or "grain" from the planchet? I have a roll of 57 d that all look very similar.

I do. I don't care if it's a result of the minting process. When did you old timers/veterans decide NOT to base a grade on a coin's appearance? Was it before or after the TPG's? As far as I'm concerned, a coin is what it is. When you have to start justifying it's time to move on. This is a simple yet effective way to buy quality raw coins.

Again some lines, but even less obvious than on the 58-. Solid strike for a coin not noted for solid strikes and lots of luster. If that 58- was a 66, this is a solid 67.

And these lines do appear to be raised so they must have been from the die.
