    Woodies are tough to grade, I'm Guessing (and I do mean guessing) ms 62bn

    I love the coloring and would give it a 65 , but PCGS doesn't seem to like woodies so 64 .

    My pictures don't show it well, but this is a super struck coin. Abe's beard is full and complete without a hint of a weak spot. It is nearly mark free, but the luster is not the strongest. Personally, I think this deserves at least a 64, but PCGS pulled their dislike for woodies and only gave it a 63. Well, I got a nice coin real cheap.

    I'm with you on the 64 but it's tough to get the TPG's on the same page as us woody collectors.

    Woodies are tough to grade to begin with....and IMO the TPGs don't seem to like the look and limit their grade as a result. Like most mint state coins, they are judged on luster (and eye appeal), and their mottled nature makes luster even more difficult to glean from photographs. Just tough coins to grade from photos, IMO. I wouldn't worry if you're off a bit on these coins for the above reasons....Mike
