I have just learned that I undergrade Lincolns. I said 64...

I'm thinking 65 only because I don't like the marks. Think they are too distracting for a 66.

    I think NGC Gave it a 67

Do you ? Do me a favor. Go and read the grading standards found in the PCGS and the ANA books for MS64. Then look at that coin again.

Then think about the comment you just made ;)

And what do those two books have to do with the way NGC grades?

    Nothing.

That's at least a 66 by NGC standards, and likely a 67 (which is what I guessed).

    IMO, of course. :)

Oh you're right Mike, but then NGC won't ever tell us what their standards are. So we have to go by what we can.

'Course on the other hand PCGS doesn't follow their written standards any more anyway, so even if NGC did ever tell us, it probably wouldn't matter.

Yea they do, eye appeal and luster, pretty simple. They don't need no stinkin standards. :p

    So close to a NGC 67 so a 67 it is .

And a lack of written standard doesn't appear to stop many folks from predicting the grade fairly accurately though, does it? ;)

And the "rightness" goes right back at you. :)

However, let's not confuse a lack of a written standard with a lack of consistency. I would argue that NGC is very consistent, as are PCGS. Not 100%, but nothing human and subjective ever is.

As much as we love to dismiss the value these companies provide, the reality is they are very consistent, in my opinion and based on my experience.

Of course you are free to disagree. :)
