Wow, hard one. Incredible strike/details, color etc etc., but the spotted off coloring, huge thumb print and spot on the main field in front of his nose are taking it down 2 grades at least.

    NGC 63

In response to Leadfoot pointing out that it was probably slabbed before the print and maybe spots showed up, I'll raise to NGC-65

MS 64 RD with the spot on the nose. Couldn't be in a worse place IMO. Still a keeper!

Yet again, we find ourselves pondering the age old copper question...

What did that sucker look like when it was graded?

Heck if I know, so we'll have go guess....

I'll guess the spot and toning/print showed up after the slabbing and it graded 66 RD. Rims show a touch too much chatter to grade 67. Crack that coin and grade it tomorrow, and it'd grade 65 at best.

    IMO of course.

Wow, sure is purdy...but what a bummer on the spot + print...oh well.

    Could be a 66, but I am guessing 64...

Great point Leadfoot. I'm grading on now, not when slabbed. Without the finger print, I'll say 65.

When coins with spots, prints, etc. come up, there is always a question of when the marks appeared. For this coin, I am pretty sure I know. This is, most likely, a 66 with few ticks, very nice luster and a strong strike. However, it also has a couple spots and a finger print. NGC says that makes it a 64. I am not sure I would go 64 or 65, but at the very least it is a real nice 64.
