Another tough one, but not nearly as hard as the other one this week... Two sided coin. Obverse has rim chatter and cheek mark -- which might be 1mm in length but jumps off the photo. Reverse looks a grade (or two) higher -- very clean with what appears to be the slightest hint of mellowing. My gut says 65 RD. I'm going with my gut, but I do wonder if they didn't grade it 66.
p.s. RLM, how do you decide which grade choices you include in the vote? I've always wondered, and must have missed it if you've explained it before.
I just make sure that I include the highest I can see as possible and the lowest I can see as possible. And sometimes stick in a few to make sure everything is not typically in the middle, but that is not usually necessary because most people tend to under-grade the coins. I have gotten pretty good at guessing most of them.
This is the first one where I remember being so drawn to a hit - the hit on the cheek. Just for that I went with 65 - still a nice coin. The worst part is that the picture could be making it look much worse than it truly is.
After 200 of them, that also makes you predictable -- I'll bet if we went back and did some analysis it would show you have a predilection to placing the right answer towards the top (i.e. position next-to-last and next-to-next-to-last). I know the high grade examples that you have present some challenges in doing so, but perhaps you should change it up a bit more often -- just a thought.
On the high grades, you are probably correct, but just what do I do. All or virtually all, I list as 63 - 68. I get very few 63's and virtually no 68's. Most everyone knows there are no MS69's, so just what do I do with a MS67? I have got to include a 68, but I cannot include a 69. I think I am kind of limited there. What I do do is list the 66's just like the 67's. Now, 65's and below I do bounce around a bit and they generally have a wider span.
