I thought this would be fun and informative. I took a shot and I bought this coin raw. I learned tons figuring out the diagnostics that make it an authentic example before I bought it. Lets see if NGC (and I) got it right on the grade. Go ahead, let me have it, I can take it. Thanks!

XF-45-AU-50, pretty heavy cheek rub/shoulder rub. Enviromental damage above the P in pluribus?

OK, you guys are great! Thanks for the feedback. I was thinking AU as well when I bought it, but I wasn't thinking the bottom of the barrel AU, which I feel is reserved for an ugly AU coin, which this is not. Yeah, maybe 58 is pushing it but I think I will send it back in for a review, a jump might be worth it. I get pretty annoyed whenever I get this coin out as I don't think the grade describes the coin, and I just thought "well, don't we all think our coins are under graded?" but I keep track of these coins and I see some real dogs out there graded higher.

Anyway, buying these slabbed for retail can be pretty hard on a guy. Buying one raw and having it certified was the way to go for me. If I could find another genuine one raw, I would do it again. I guess that goes for all rare coins, just gets riskier the more valuable the coins get, so I thought I would run this one by the group so we can all get better at it. Thanks again.

I think this thread got lost there when I posted late the other night. I'll percolate it one time and then let it fade if you guys aren't interested.

I think you are trying to ask if it is worth resubmitting. I really don't see that going above a 53. There are just too many ticky tacks on it to go any higher, IMO.
