Here is an interesting Silver War Nickel that I bought raw. What do you think it graded? Please use the poll and add any comments you might have.

I will use the photos that were available to me when purchasing (two of obverse and one of the reverse).

Toning can be deceptive. I'm going with MS64. ~ Chris

Love the toning on the obverse! Little bit of scratches on the cheek.
I’m going with ms64. To bad not FS!

The areas on his cheek are distracting, whether they are damage or planchet flaws it keeps it in the gem range. no better than a 65.

Well, that's interesting. Some crazy colors on this piece. I'm going to go with a strong 66, possibly +.

I suppose that I should clarify, based on all the QT guesses - this toning appears completely natural in my opinion, if unusual. I can go into more detail tomorrow if anyone is interested.

MS 65 Nice luster, minimal roughness on the strike, lending to enhanced attractiveness on the face. The reverse only has normal step weakness but looks terrific otherwise. I can’t tell what the mark is on the forehead, but it may limit the overall grade somewhat.

I voted for MS 65, considering the strike (which is not so great) and the distracting marks on the reverse. Still it’s a hell of a coin, in particular with this toning!
