Guess the assigned grade of this 1943-P Jefferson Nickel graded by NGC by voting in the attached poll. As always, comments welcome!
Nice. I'll go with 65 due to the cheek chatter and some other areas. I'm sure that nick on the steps will no doubt void a FS designation.
I am taking a risk at saying 65 though. Because unless it's an overdate or other variety, I don't think Paul would ever own anything lower than a 66.
There are a couple noticeable dings in the focal areas. Unless they are in the holder...I can't see this coin being any higher than MS65.
The steps leading up to Monticello need to be fully split without breaks, kinda like a mercury dime. (I think my response will be torn apart, so have at it)
As you may know, the designation FS or fullsteps is given to the nickels where the steps are intact and uninterrupted on the Monticello. There are a total of 6 steps. Hull coins is right on. NGC gives out 3 different designation for this. 5 FS, 5.5 FS and 6FS. PCGS only gives out one, and it's FS. I believe the criteria for PCGS is a minimum of 5. The slightest nicks or marks can void a FS designation.
66 no FS. Nice luster. Was this one hard to photograph? These photos to seem a little bit more exposed than usual.
Surprising that nobody noticed after this comment. I think everyone was a little harsh with the grade because of the oversized photos. The mark on the jaw is barely noticeable to the naked eye in hand.
Unless that thing has luster your camera missed and that "spot" above Monticello is really shiny, that is not the nicest 67 you have posted. And, no, that is not due to the size of the pictures. There are several nicks visible even on your small picture without enlargement and other spots in front of the mouth.
