Please guess the assigned grade of this 1943-P NGC Jefferson Nickel in the attached poll. Comments about the coin are always welcome!
Another nice one, I am having a little trouble nailing down the steps with there being a little bit of glare on them. I'm going 65 FS just because of the bag marks or what not which for the most part are on the Monticello. The fields look pretty clean so I may be being a little harsh. Jefferson's are not my specialty by any means.
If a coin is only as good as its worst side, then I have to say 65. Hard to tell with the reflection, but I think 5FS.
I voted 65fs, but the more I look at it I have to wonder if NGC figured the marks on jefferson's jaw and the nicks on the reverse were planchet defects not completely obliterated by the strike. I would think that it may go 66. I think 67 would be a little high, but still a very nice coin. The striped toning is awesome.
The answer depends highly on luster. And it's tough to tell from the photo, but generally you do a very good job of capturing it. So I'm going to guess it's a bit muted my gut says 65 5FS. But why would you own a 65 FS? Hmmmm.... Going with my gut.
Hmmmm... is right. Imo, those don't look like Lehigh's pics. So, my guess is there's something interesting about the grade. From the pics I say 65 5FS (but I feel it's slabbed higher).
Nice woodgrain, really good strike, if it weren't for the planchette marks I would say 67fs easy, probably nets 65fs, but I think they may have been forgiving so I will say 66FS. Paul, check your PM, getting ready to send that stuff to you.
