What grade did NGC give this toned 1941-D Jeff? The pics depict the toning reasonbly well.

    THE ANSWER

    MS 67

It must have been graded by someone who likes toning. I'd give it a 65. There are a couple of spots at 10 and 11 o'clock, and the strike is not a sharp as I'd like for a 67.

It's full step but that's not noted on the label. I don't have many slabs nor know them well, but I think this one dates to before NGC used the FS designation.

Extra Sharp Full Steps are very common for 41D. I surely didn't think MS67. I thought MS66 was pushing it.

I agree, I think somebody got a gift with this one. The marks on the cheek and collar is what tossed me back in the 65 range and I thought that was stretching it.

    Interesting coin, thanks for sharing

Yep - this is what I was thinking too - maybe 66FS. Thanks for sharing!

I'd be interested to know when this was graded.. I would be surprised if it were graded within the last year.. seems for a time 1 to 3 years ago they were very generous on the nickel grades... just my opinion

I'd give it a 65, too, and, it clearly has full-steps. That said, I can see it "fad graded" at 67, today, for the toning...

I've had the slab about 10 years, so at least that long ago.
