Sorry for the awful pictures. The camera was more interested in focusing on the slab instead of the coin.
Eight replies in, and no one has jumped his case for calling it a penny instead of a cent. You guys are slipping.
Oh, so now IGC uses non-existent grades? VF-10? And a non-existent grading co? or a VG-10? http://www.icgcoin.com/
If I'm reading the population search right, this is the only VG10 1924 penny (cent if you're anal) that ICG has ever graded.
Nice score on the "condition rarity" there. It should go to heritage. BTW, when did the US start making pennies? Couldn't help myself.
As I've said many times before, I collect for fun, not profit. This coin is interesting, different, and an oddity. And I like coins with patina. It was well worth what I paid for it for the novelty factor and the slab alone.
At least since 1909 according to the US mint. http://www.usmint.gov/kids/coinNews/circulating/01centCoin.cfm and there are numerous other such quotes. Maybe most notable was the header of my search for "penny"; The One Cent Coin (Penny) Learn about penny's history, design, production....
