This guy walked into the shop raw today. She's going to be on her way for certification. What do you think it will grade?
I would call her a MS64, but if PCGS likes her enough she may get a 64+. NGC probably will give her a 65 if you send her that way. Beautiful Barber none the less!
This is 30 points higher than where I collect the series so I won't begin to venture a guess but it's a beauty
Phew, that was a close one. Also, your images are amazing man. They give me a funny feeling inside when I see them. When I click the image to full size, I can see inside her ear. Awesome.
Tough to tell from the pictures, but has the coin been dipped before? Also, there seems to be a luster break on his cheek (rub?). I'm guessing 63, maybe 64. Other that that, the luster is dripping on the reverse! What a stunner!
Yes the coin has been dipped because I properly dipped it . There isn't any noticeable luster break on the cheek that I can see in hand.
It looked dipped at first, and from you saying it was dipped made me feel good about myself. Though that aside, I believe it will grade cleanly at a MS65.
I am going with the 65 as well. I have a question though, when a raw coin like this walks in with a decent amount of price difference between 63, 64, and 65, how do you gauge how much you buy it for? Or just hope your grading skills are up to par?
I paid slightly less than MS64 money for this coin. When I look at a coin like this I try to figure what my worst case scenario is. Worse case is that it comes back in a 64 holder and I break even. It's just how we have to look at raw coins that are presented to us for sale.
I am gonna go with MS64+ as well. The reverse is MS65 all day long but I think the light chatter on the cheek and right obverse field along with the dipping might preclude a gem grade. To be clear, I am not saying that the dipping affected the luster only that the TPG's seem to be very hard on dipped coins lately. Did you take any photos of the coin before you dipped it?
