Howdy y'all, this is my first "Guess the Grade," so be kind :)

I am working on a 7070 with the majority of dates being selected for paternal ancestor birth years. Lucky me, my grandfather was born in 1913 and great grandfather were born in 1885. Since my family members decided to be born on key date years and the fact that I am seeking to complete a MS (or excellent eye appeal AU) 7070, this may be a longer term project than most 7070s!

I recently purchased this 1885 half dollar in an NGC slab. Yes, I carefully cracked her out for the most delicate transfer from slab to album to date.

I understand your ability to 'guess the grade' is a function of photograph quality. I have limited photography skills and no special equipment. Therefore, I've done my best- posting macro photos (from a cheap Canon) and regular iPhone photos in natural lighting. There has been no editing to the photos other than cropping.

    Thanks for looking and guessing!

  3. A couple thoughts...

Quite an expensive coin for a Dansco.

    It appears to be real.

My grade would be about MS62. Looks semi prooflike, but with such a small mintage, not many coins to wear out the die.

Probably dipped at one time, but which 19th century coin in MS hasn't been?

Very cool coin, thanks for sharing.

Beautiful coin :) I'd guess Unc Details because of the hairlines on the obverse of the coin.

IIRC Some hairlines are permitted even on MS coins per PCGS .

I feel like it's a 58... But could easily be 61... Those grades seem interchangeable these days.

How can you tell if the hairlines are from a cleaning or from something else?

Not an expert, but lines from a cleaning will extend over top of the "devices".

I think the lines you are referring to are die polish lines , these lines will not go over the devices , where hairlines could .
