Here is a Seated Liberty Quarter graded by PCGS that I wanted to get some opinions on. All comments are greatly appreciated! Sorry, no multiple choice this time; this is one of those free response tests.
I'm thinking 58 but what's going on the right obverse field? Die polishing marks or is that just on the slab
I'm going with AU details cleaned due to what look like hairlines on the obverse, but it sure is a pretty coin anyway.
AU Details if those are cleaning lines . If it's the pic I'd go 58 . It does look cleaned and retoned .
I'll say Au details but..... you got a Misplaced date in the denticals under the six maybe more to left as it's bury on my tablet .
There are three likely ways coins like this will fall. AU Details AU-58 MS-62(61?) The fields look like they would take it down to details, but I've observed and owned several with a very similar look. And probably worth around $300 or so unless it's a major variety for that date.
That is on the coin, but it looks much worse in the picture than in person (where it isn't that noticeable).
I'm glad it looks better in hand , but to the tpgs , hairlines from improper cleaning no matter how little will usually give it a detail grade . I have a 1825 half in Unc Details reverse improperly cleaned that I couldn't understand why they detailed it . But at a certain angle they are visible . If you look right above the eagles head there are hairlines , tiny and only visible fron a certain angle . Image View: Normal | Medium | Large
One of the things I was wondering is if there is any chance that this is a circulated proof coin? It's hard to show in the photos, but the coin has a mirror finish, especially on the reverse. Potentially just prooflike? The following photos try to show what I mean, but they still aren't the best. Any thoughts?
