VF Details, Cleaned The coin's surface is too bright and shiny for the grade, hairlined, and there is a halo effect around the devices (particularly strong on this coin) - all red flags. I do still think it's a nice coin with great retoning, however.
So is this another one where the half dollar standards don't match the dollar ones? There might be a cleaning here, but I don't think it's recent. I'm at straight 30.
Wow, that is something you don't see everyday! Surfaces: There appears to be a bit of shininess that is a bit unusual underneath the toning. It has probably been cleaned a while ago - you don't normally see colors like that on completely original coins. Surfaces: 2/5 Wear: The obverse is a classic VF-20 level of wear, the reverse looks a bit stronger. Maybe a 25+ for wear on the reverse? Eye Appeal: Absolutely stellar. Those colors are fantastic and natural, even if the underlying coin has been cleaned. Contact marks: There are quite a lot of marks on this coin. The rough surfaces from excessive marks are unattractive to me, but it does happen. Overall: I'm going to guess this got a VF-25. It gets a bump up for eye appeal, but a bump down for marks and cleaning. That evens out to a 25, in my opinion.
I would guess vf 25, unless you are going by Dick Osburn's suggestion of grading by the reverse. then vf 30. Great coin.
VF25 Cleaned, but they seem to straight grade these if they've healed some. I think even the obverse makes 25, with the reverse a bit better.
Obverse VF20+, Reverse VF 25+. Net grade VF 25. Possibly cleaned, but some time ago. Nice toning and eye appear. Probably slabbed VF 35 or XF 40.
VF-20, possibly VF-25. And as previously stated, cleaned. However, it would make a good addition to most collections.
