I previously posted this coin on the following thread and got some great information from my fellow CT members:

    https://www.cointalk.com/threads/will-this-draped-bust-half-grade-problem-free.259181/#post-2079690

I purchased it raw in the late 90's and this is the first time it has ever been submitted to be graded. I just found out today what grade PCGS assigned it, so I'm starting a new GTG thread.

Here are its photos in the buff. I'll post a photo of the slab after I receive it in the mail.

That coin could be the picture of F12 in a grading guide, so that's my guess. :)

I'll go with F12, too. I owned a coin very much like that a few years back and it was in a PCGS VG10 holder. Still, I think your reverse is a little better than that coin, so I'll stick with F12.

Anybody know the Overton number? I think I see a doubled or repunched "T" in LIBERTY. Also, what's going on in between "B" and "E" in LIBERTY?

O-115. The responses in the previous thread said that the gash between b and e is PMD. I'm still wondering how it got there as usually gouges are not curved like this one. Not sure if a piece of debris in the die could have caused it?

I'm torn between VG8 obverse to F12 reverse so I will go with VG10 net grade. Still a nice example except the gouge which might have been original to the coin based on shape and location.

The O-115 is right but a few Overton #s used the same obverse die so the recut lettering can't alone be used to attribute it .

Is that MD on the T in liberty?

I'm going to call it F-15.

No , they repunched the T twice on the die , remember they did all the lettering by hand in those days .

It came back as an F12 which is pretty much the consensus on this thread. I was actually expecting a lower grade or even a details grade for the gouge (at 11:30 on the obverse), so I'm pleasantly surprised. This is the first time I have ever sent in a raw coin to be slabbed and the results really made my day.

You were expecting a lower grade? Only one person guessed less than the actual grade. And, as far as a details grade, if I were a betting man, you'd have to give me about 4:1 before I'd take that bet.
