Extreemly tough to grade in terms of guessing what pcgs would call this one. My collection holds a pcgs 45 which is yards lesser that this example..... I'm gonna say AU55 (my book) and give it a double bump +2 to 60... +1 for my tendency for undergrade, and +1 for pcgs key date bump and RLM's tendency to collect only in the MS grades (.. the uppedy SNOB !! ; )
I am not an expert on wheaties, but I'm going low (as always), with 53. Even though the strikes were normally weak, it still gets a 53. But the edge is really bad putting it in 50-55 territory
I usually have trouble with AU grades. Guessed 53, although a 55 or even a 58 would not surprise me much.
OUCH! This one hurt more than a couple you and, yes, I only average 1 point per grade and not 3 points (for 50 versus 53). I had this one certified. I was torn between 50 and 53 - and I still am. It is a pretty good strike for a 24-D, but there is just too much wear. I cannot argue with a 50.
Well done Mark! Looking at the full slab photo, I can see 50 or 53. Just not enough luster there for a higher grade, I suppose. Very attractive low-end AU coin, no matter the grade. I like this coin, and would really like to buy it in a 50 holder.
WOW! That's a HARSH grade, the fields and everything are extremely nice.....PCGS made an example out of this coin....like a big bully, sometimes they just have to prove how tough they are. BAH
