Is the cresent on the reverse from the holder or on the planchet. It looks like it was struck over it.

It is definitely on the coin. I have never seen one quite like it, but it looks just like a woodie there.

This one was a tough one to grade especially with the marks on the reverse..I think it should get a 58 but if 1917 were known to have weak dies then that is something the grade of it would be different. So I gave it a 62.

What's going on with the word Unum ? The letters look bigger and doubled , I'm thinking
week strike and the picture .

Someone else is going to have to tell you why. It is definitely bigger and weaker, but I don't see any doubling.

Think I'm going to have to wait and evaluate this one when I haven't had so many drinks from aluminum cans. What in the world happend to that mint mark?

It's an extremely over-used San Fran reverse die. They were just practicing up for the 1920's!!

Wheats are a bit weak and that flower (whatever you chose to call it) on the reverse would probably make me accept any grade PCGS gave it. It is a pretty clean coin so I would not think the wheats would hurt it much. I have no problems with the 63.

Well, I am back or at least mostly back. They kept my gall bladder.

I said I was hurting last round of scores. I messed them up. Don't put much weight in them. These are the correct (and corrected) scores

In fact, I feel much better without it. And apparently it really was "stinkin". They still have a drain in me. Now it only bothers me when I sneeze, cough, or hic-up
