It's pretty rare for me to see a coin that I think is clean enough to grade higher but yet at the same time be one that should not be graded higher because of a lack of eye appeal. This is one of those coins.
I guessed 65RB. Maybe a 64 if the luster is more impared than the photos suggest. That said, GDJMSP, your comments confuse me. I see nothing wrong with the eye appeal of this coin, outside of a few spots and something odd going on at 6 o'clock on the reverse. To the contrary, I'll bet the coin is quite appealing in-hand, particularly the obverse. What do you see? Just curious.
Dick, On the reverse side, is that rim damage or possibly a wear from the die that caused some form of detoriation to the coin? Guessing a 64+
I am not sure just what it is. It is one end of a line (very faint) that runs from about 3:00 to that mark you see, but that is the only point that is obvious. Just guessing, I would say lamination. One thing I can say with reasonable certainty is that it is not pmd.
Just a heads up for you guys. I had several post, votes and images go missing the past day or two. I think Peter has it fixed now but I had to vote a second time on the last few coins. It was strange.
This one looks better in hand than in the picture. There is a bit more luster than it looks here, but it is still a marginal 65 at best.
