This will be the fourth of five guess the grades from my recent submission to NGC. Please view the photos below and vote in the attached poll. For uniformity, I will provide the same available grades for all 5 coins. As always, comments welcome!
I agree Green 65 nice color and a mm with a die chip. The 54 S Jefferson had some crazy mm S/D ,repunched S ,that I've have heard some call an S/S.
Another coin that I was hoping would make MS67. The 1954-S is notoriously the worst struck in the entire series. Most 54-S look like absolute garbage which makes this coin a giant among men. As and example of what I am talking about, consider this 1954-S Now obviously, this is poorly struck even by the typical 1954-S standards but I wanted to give you an idea of the broad range of quality for this date/mm. And I promise you, in my experience, most 54-S are closer to this in quality than the one I submitted. Back to the coin in question, There is a large mark on Jeff's jawline mixed in with some planchet roughness. I thought there might be chance that the graders would consider that mark part of the planchet flaws and give the coin a top grade. Alas, they finally caught one and limited the grade to MS66 on what is otherwise and MS67 coin.
No, it means that there are 5 complete, unbroken full steps on the reverse. Sometimes, in a weak strike, they are indistinct, or broken. This coin has a weak strike, but great tone and luster.
