This one's coming my way in a swap. It is in a straight-graded TPG slab. Guess the grade, if you are so inclined.

Oh, hey, if you're an EAC whiz-kid (I'm not), what's the Newcomb variety, if you don't mind?

I'll reveal the grade after 25 votes in the poll.

I pretended I did not know the grade when registering my own vote, so I went by what I would have guessed if someone else had posted this coin with a similar poll.

Transparent GIF images, obviously. Beyond my software and skills, alas. I'm glad there are wizards in the woodwork.

(Speaking of which, due thanks as usual to @Deacon Ray for doing the "shadowbox" Photoshop template on this one for me. Source image was the Trueview (which I've temporarily redacted the cert number on for the purposes of this GtG exercise).

So that tells you it's in a PCGS holder, anyway.

I voted 62 RB, pretending I didn't know the grade and was looking at the coin with fresh eyes.

That isn't necessarily the true grade, though.

I voted 61 RB as well, but only because I am hopeless grading anything beyond MS60. It could well grade higher and I love the coin.

I believe he made them. He verified an 09-S, VDB I had and attributed the variety as well. I have seen his overlays on several threads helping guys Validate their coins. Quite a talented guy.

Ten votes in, and nobody (including my own "pretend you don't know" vote) has nailed the correct grade yet.

Well, technically, one of us may have nailed the correct grade. The TPG got it wrong!

True, but if we're including all opinions and discarding PCGS's, then maybe the correct grade is MS72 RD!

That has a nice ring to it... :woot:

Originally, these coppers were all red in color. Hot off the press copper.
