This should be a gem 65.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

These are ridiculously hard to grade, and incredibly inconsistent.

I went 64 based on the large marks, and the rim scuff. I wouldn't be surprised to see this in a 65 holder, based on the luster.... but I like it better at 64.

    '64........

Edit: I want to change my determination to mint state 65. The face of the minute man is clearly defined......something you don't always see.

    I went with MS 63
(looks like nice luster but some marks, like that reverse hit)...I also think these are hard to grade, so it'll be interesting to see the result.

The uniform doesn’t seem too sharp to me. This coin isn’t in my wheelhouse so I don’t know if that’s typical or not. Pulling a number out of the air, I’ll say 63.

Luster is great, strike is strong, and just a few small marks . . . I wanted MS65, and fell one point short.

Honestly, the rim scuff is probably what held you back. The TPGs really punish coins with those.

You're referring to the reverse rim at 3:00, right?

    Yes.

For comparison, I was talking to Mark Salzberg and had a Presidential review of a coin. It's graded 65+* FBL. He told me that the single mark on the obverse rim was what kept this Franklin from a 66* FBL:

And related to circulation or to 'strike'?

  20. physics-fan3.14

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

Neither. It's a mark like any other contact mark. There is no wear evident (no circulation), and a rim scuff is not a result of the minting process. It's just an accidental contact mark in an unfortunate area that hurts the grade.
