This coin is not graded. This dealer put on his flips what he thought the coin was, and liked to talk Jeffersons with ya. He had a few other types but was mostly a Jefferson Guy.
His table was the highlight of my show experience. I bought two coins from him that I thought were the top coins for value from his table.
This is the first time they have been removed from their contains for photos. What grade do you give the 40S Jefferson below. First images are sealed in the Cointains.
    I bought it, I believe in 2017.

The reveal is the Dealers flip, his opinion, and obviously my ok of his opinion because I bought it for his price.

Can you change to poll to allow more than one answer. I think the coin is MS66 6FS but the poll will only allow me to select one or the other.

This is not what I was thinking fora GTG.
What do you grade the Jefferson above?

    I'd grade MS66 6FS, but it might go 67. It's a beautiful coin.

Is it what grade I think it would be or, as your title asks, what the flip says? My guess would be different for each question.

That is what I thought everyone was gonna do. We used to chime in and say, the flip or slab says MS67 Just misses 6FS, I think that the coin is MS66 5FS that weakness in the 6th step looks a little weak.

PS  that was just blurting out a grade, not my opinion of the coin.

Huh? Lol! My guess was for what was labeled on the flip. I try not to post my thoughts about the GTG stuff before the reveal because I don't want to make other people think outside of their opinion.

Thats the idea of GTG. It gets the next guy thinking about his/her opinion.

MS 65 6FS on the flip and based on the luster and clean fields I can see it getting up to MS 66 6FS

I bought this from D&F coins. You have to remember that 2017 grading was still more conservative than it is today. The dealer had MS65 5 3/4 steps. the step is complete under pillar 3 but as you get to the right side it does fill in before it touches the curb. I think that even NGC would call this 6FS. well not too sure after Lehighs last submission. I think that the luster is incredible and everybit of premium, The coin has very little contact unless under a loupe and very minor at that. I wasn't able to get the full colors on the obverse, it has some very nice rainbows from 1 to 8.

I will try to get some good photos of the other Jefferson I bought from him.

He has it graded as an MS65 5FS, but priced as an MS66 5FS. Personally, I employ the opposite business model. I grade leniently on raw coins and then price them at the grade below. It still looks like a 66 6FS to me.

What are you using for a guide ? The CPG has 143 for 66FS?

    1940-S Jefferson Nickel MS65 (66) 5FS
    Greysheet: $30 ($76)
    CPG Retail: $40 ($105)

It is near impossible to get full price guide on raw coins, so if he is selling it for $60, that is MS66 FS wholesale price in my world.
