This coin gave me fits Photo'ing. And am happy to have acquired this Low mintage Peace. I have other photos that could help with the grade, if needed. Any ways please offer your opinion. Taken under the same lighting and camera setting.
I think it's a technical 62, but I would be willing to bet that PCGS bumped it to 63 for that spectacular luster. They are suckers for luster.
Where's Ed Wood? In Aruba? My first impression is MS. But, I don't like all the chatter on the face and left field. The reverse is weakly struck (all the lettering around the rim) especially PEACE. 61
MS-64 ............................................................................. Nice coin ...................................................................................
I'm at a strong 63. I struggle with the luster (which is amazing) and what I'm perceiving to be a weak strike, which makes it tough to grade. I'd be happy with this if I saw it in a 64 slab.
It's the lowest minted Peace, (key date) and seems to have a grading tier of it's own. These are known to be quite Baggy, and the Key to grading them is what marks are superficial and which are deep and distracting. I appreciate the tough comments, but I think if I showed this coin in more of a white light, it would cause most to overgrade. Note: there are only 3 or so marks on this Dollar that are distracting. Hommer pointed to one already.
Some of what we see here is on the slab - it's kind of skritchy - and a coin with such vicious luster will accentuate the smallest of minor distractions. It's a reach because with a single set of images one must extrapolate (or interpolate) to "see" the actual coin, but my guess is the slab says MS63. Is that a split serif I see on the lower right of the R in LIBERTY, and possibly the bottom of the E?
