The last 1950 Franklin I posted for a GTG spawned a 9 page thread with a spirited discussion. I'm thinking it should make this thread pretty interesting. As we know, the last coin graded MS66+ FBL. This coin is certainly not FBL, but I would like to know what everyone thinks about the numerical grade.

I would go MS-66 on this one. Franklin Half Dollars really are one of those coins that should be graded in hand rather than through images. These seem to have a lot of planchet marks that show even after striking which can sway a guess in a negative direction.

Ive never been a huge fan of the franklin design and your GTG threads on them arent helping me like them anymore. Im not sure even what to call this one. It isnt FBL. This one seems to be a bit more baggy than the others. Im seeing some splotches and breaks in the frost but I think the toning helped it. Overall I dont think it is as nice as the others. Because of the toning Im going 65+.

Beautiful natural pastel rainbows on both sides, full original mint luster, smooth surfaces with no meaningful marks, well struck despite not being FBL . . . what's not to love about this coin?

If there aren't hairlines or a wheelmark to hold it back, I'd guess PCGS MS67 or NGC MS66+.

I think 65+ should be about right. Lovely colors, it’s a shame that there are hits on the rev which prevent an FBL designation.

MS 65+ ...also nice but appears to be a slightly lower grade than the other example

I’m glad you are posting these as I’m trying to learn to grade Franklins. I find them to be challenging but guessed 65.

I just went back and examined the thread for your other 1950 half. If you used the same lighting for both sets of photos, this coin is nowhere near as lustrous as I thought. I bet it's at least a full grade lower than my original estimate . . . 65+.

65+. Would be unremarkable but great toning saves it.
