I've always been a huge fan of Franklin halves and for the last ~2 years I've been working on a Linda Gail inspired set. I've of course been striving for FBL as much as possible and leaning toward toned, colorful coins. This latest addition is a bit of an exception in that regard - not all that colorful - but the unique, golden hue was enough for me to pick it up.

Note the few marks where Mr. Franklin appears to have nicked himself shaving off his sideburns :)

    That is an interesting luster.
    Pretty coin.
    Edit
Then it clicks that this is a first hubbing.

I didn't connect the dots until I saw your comment; excellent point! I'd noticed how well struck the reverse was, especially the detail on the bell and eagle, but it didn't dawn on me why that might be the case on a first-year-of-issue coin.

    That's a gorgeous coin! It's at least a MS66FBL, maybe a MS67 (but I've never seen one close up).

I agree with many of you that this coin looks a bit better than MS65. Regardless, it's a beauty and I'm very pleased with the addition :)
