Buffalos are so hard for me to grade, especially from photographs. Honestly, my first reaction was 64, but that's not an option you provided. So I guessed 65.
Ok, so this Buffalo resides in a PCGS MS66 OGH and has absolutely booming luster, better than most MS67s I've seen for this date/mm. So everyone who guessed MS66 gets a pat on the back, but wait, I mentioned a bonus. The coin is currently at NGC for crossover, so everyone who guessed MS66 or higher is still in the game. I see nothing that would prevent this coin from upgrading to an MS67 grade with the exception that the TPGs are just really tough on the 38-D Buffalo.
Whatever happens, that's a fantastic coin. Now remind me, NGC does not do the + but they do the *, correct?
NGC uses both the + & * designation. In fact, my 1944-D registry coin has both. PCGS only uses the + designation.
I put 58, something about the marks just told me circulated. But I'm be pro at buffalos. I think it's because the coin has blazing luster but then surfaces seem to change at high points, idk.
If this one crosses over at the 66 level, I would be surprised if it did not get either of these designations.
It won’t get a * designation. I’ve never seen any coin with monochromatic gold toning ever get a star. As for the grade, I’m expecting a full upgrade to MS67, but would settle for MS66+. If this coin crosses straight at MS66, I’m gonna be ticked off.
