What was the grade the tpg gave it? An extra point for the variety. Here is a brighter pic of the obv. n extra point for the variety
MS 63, I bet they deducted for lack of eye appeal otherwise MS 64?. I'm not saying it doesn't have it, but I bet its something they were picky about
MS-64 give or take a grade, but MS66 would be way too high due to the muted luster and missing eye appeal.
Not enough feather or hair detail for me to be in the mid 60's. The toning is a distraction. If it is MS, then I am at 62. Variety- Die from 1932 hubs?
I recently came across a PCGS slabbed 1934 that was slabbed as a Heavy Motto but it was a Medium Motto. I would have bought it had it actually been the Heavy Motto. Oh well. Sometimes the TPG's can't get it right.
In case anyone is interested, here is the a way to differentiate between the 3 Motto Types from PCGS CoinFacts. The Light Motto is very easy to see. The dead giveaway between the Medium Motto and Heavy Motto is the W in WE. The center point of the W in the Medium Motto is below the outer tops of the W. In the Heavy Motto, the center point of the W is above the outer tops of the W.
It is pretty clean, but the dark toning, spotting, and rather mushy strike should keep it from going any higher than MS63
Areas where I think I see rub are highlighted. Not so sure about the leg, but the wings and the eagle's head definitely look like rub from the photo. Those are also the highpoints of the reverse.
....And after looking at the obverse again, I would say there is an outside change this went as low as AU58. The hair above the ear matches wear for a 58, but it could be a weak strike.
