Really want to hear what everything has to say about this new addition. First set of images are mine, second set are from Heritage (look all you want, you won't find the coin on Heritage, so you can't cheat ).
MS 63 ....that was just my first reaction and I went with it ....I recall your earlier thread about cracked planchets...not sure if that played much of a role in the grade (I could see that lowering it by one point).
Before I bought this, I spoke with the dealer, and he assured me it was as minted, and I had (have) a review period if I didn't like it. The toning fits with the direction I would like all my commems to be (golden toning), and overall, I do like the coin. Upon close examination, there is no question in my mind that this is simply an unattributed mint error, having been struck on a cracked planchet. I *may* try and cross it at PCGS with the mint error, or I may send it in to NCG to have them add the error attribution. Very undecided in that regard, though. And the reveal:
if you send it for attribution, and it stays at the same grade, get the green bean. It is a very attractive coin, and I think the toning goes better with the NGC holder. Unless you plan on selling it, it really would be better off with NGC.
I thought the rim extending inward on both sides of the coin indicated localized compression and consequent damage, but the graders had the benefit of firsthand examination . . . error acknowledged. Repeat . . . Very nice looking coin. If not for the error, I think the coin might have graded 65.
