Ok gang, here is a recent pick up for me. I used a little birthday money on it. I just love the strong gold toning on it.
Lovely coin, excellent strike, I'm scared to death of grading Buffs. Is this a well-aged die, or typical of the fields on a 1913?
The strike really sets this coin up there. I have 2 type 1 & 1 type 2 none with that sharp of a strike. I recently picked up 1 to replace the other for the better strike. @JTLEE what did you pay for this one if you don't mind my asking?
It does seem to have a really nice strike and the luster is really strong. The dies I feel are MDS not quite LDS as I don't see any cracks developed on it, but I can definitely see some die fatigue going on as well as some evidence of clashing that has been worked over to get cleaned up. The most notable is in the motto EPU on the reverse, you can see the space between PLURIBUS, UNUM and the buffalo's back has been heavily worked. @Smojo I will reveal what I paid for it when I reveal the grade, as telling what I paid will give you an idea as to the grade.
@SuperDave I'd say it's fairly typical of the fields of a 1913 Type 1. It's one of the reason's I'm drawn to them, I just love them. I do have an example of a fairly late die state from the Denver mint, it has really nice flow lines between it's rear legs as well as some great cracks on the mound running through FIVE CENTS.
Thank you all for the Birthday wishes, my Birthday was back in mid May, but just now getting to celebrate a little bit.
This is an NGC-MS-66 for comparison . The ops coin is bursting with luster , a little more than mine .
