MS64 is that a cud on the L to the rim in Liberty?

Sorry now it looks like a hit. Opposite of a raised area.

Can anyone explain why the 1913 Type I nickels often tend to have “rough” looking fields (for lack of a better term) compared to later dates? New master hub?

Got to admit those rough fields really makes the coin... imho it just sets off the obv.

Agreed, I think it gives it a rustic look. This one below was my first that had it going on... another hammered strike but was the first time I noticed that particular difference in the 1913’s.

Only NGC gives stars....it's a beautiful coin, but I wouldn't think it would be a star at NGC (stars for Buffalo Nickels are quite uncommon).
