    MS63, but should be a 64.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

    Yeah, it probably got 64.

I don't think the obverse is strong enough to get the PL.

I'm at a 64 with an outside chance at a 65. My first instinct was semi-PL. I can't believe that was in a DMPL holder. Does it even look PL to you?

I think she looks PL and if the grader is feeling gracious that day could go DMPL.

As far as grade I took the advice of a well respected person who viewed it in person along with a dealer who both felt an easy 64PL maybe 64DMPL.

Isn't a 63 DMPL on an old ANACS holder worth more than a 64 PL in a PCGS holder?

There was unappealing dip residue that needed to be removed.

I've had coins like that before. Too bad.

Huh, the DMPL holder has me wondering.... Was the holder wrong, or are your pictures not showing the mirrors? I would be *really* surprised if a DMPL didn't even cross as PL..... I will amend my guess to 64PL, although your initial pictures don't really show it.

Quick check of the NGC price guide shows 63DPL at $260, and 64PL at $275. Granted, these prices are probably somewhat optimistic, but the fact remains that PCGS will almost always garner a stronger price than ANACS at the same grade (old holder or not). An old ANACS holder will usually be worth more than a new ANACS holder (why would anyone submit to ANACS today?).

All told, crossing a 63DPL ANACS (with the value suppressed by the ANACS) to a 64PL PCGS (with the value helped by the PCGS) would result in a pretty decent "value" gain. Yes, I realize that its the exact same coin for two arbitrarily different prices. The clothes make the man... or the Morgan.

I hope you get an MS64PL out of this.

Cascade had the coin in hand. With his opinion it was decided cracking was worth a shot.
