Another Morgan for GTG. Y’all know what to do. I am experimenting with a new photo technique for my coins. One hint— the coin has a bit of a surprise, and may not look it. All comments welcome, please, as people learn from them. Thanks for participating!
It's hard to tell from the pic's but Think I'm seeing a lot of reflectivity in those fields so I'm gonna give you the PL on this one... 64 PL
Tough call from pics I’m at 62. A couple big marks on cheek and just back on a date that’s not tough in 65+
I'll say MS 64 ....since you said there is a surprise, I gave it a PL since that designation was looser in the older era (and I see this looks to be an OGH slab).
Ok don't take this seriously I am trying to grade it Contact marks are light and less concentrated, luster is original, strike is sharp, eye appeal pleasing overall...IDK about pl so my guess is m 63 I used books to come up with my guess (making the grade book) One guy on here can look at the coin and grade it in couple of minutes or less that's freaking awesome compared to my 20 minutes and scouring.
Will post reveal tonight. @CamaroDMD @SensibleSal66 @MorganDollarGuy @Skyman @Collecting Nut @Vertigo @GoldFinger1969 @physics-fan3.14 @Lehigh96
Ok, the surprise was that it is prooflike. It is a very bright, super reflective prooflike, not deeply cameo, but kind of satiny, and attractive. The grade is typically OGH. I would grade it 63+ or low 64 in today’s market.
Basically, there are two types of prooflike Morgans. Type1 is the heavily cameo contrast look, with lots of die polish striations. Type 2 is extremely bright, deeply reflective, with less of the cameo effect, and less contrast, but like a shaving mirror. This is a type 2 prooflike coin. It is extremely hard to photograph and capture the look of PL coins, frequently.
I thought it was along those lines. Thanks for the good information. Easier for me to understand now.
They got it wrong ...its m 63 pl........M 62 would have numerous contacts marks on cheek neck and fields strike sharp, luster is original. Thats why I gave up trying to cipher these grades I am always off they see things I dont.. Steve Wonder must be grading them by feel probably comes closer than I.
OGH holder coins tend to grade lower, as the standards 25-30 years ago were tighter. I would have gone 63+ PL in today’s holder.
