GTG 1884-O Morgan. Who can figure out what else is going on?? *Thanks superDave for fixing the photos. Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk
That seems part of it to me; it's like a cake mix you only took two swirls of the mixing spoon thru, and then baked the result. I don't even think you could call it an "alloy." The strike is all kinds of weird, as well.
Hmm.. I say MS-63. The date appears to be a far date. Oval O. A lot of stuff happening around the rim, probably hits. What is that by the eagle's right wing? A hit? Looks raised like a gouge. Very mushy strike, especially on the reverse. Im gonna go out on a very far limb and say with the help of scotch, maybe it is a late stage strike through capped die
What would cause a piece of copper to be floating around a planchet like that for it to be a strike thru on the obv and then the reverse an unmixed swirl? Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk
I don't think the temperature ever got high enough for the silver and copper to properly mix into alloy. The color of the coin - where it's silver - is too "silvery" for me to believe there's much copper present. I'd like to see an XRF survey of the surface.
