GTG: 1883 Proof? Nickel

Hi,
Recently got this for about 5 USD in a part of a large lot at an auction. Was considering sending this in to PCGS, as long as it got the proof designation. I would appreciate it if anyone can help me decide what grade it might get.

It doesn't appear to be a proof to me.

 

I think it's a business strike. There is nothing screaming proof to me. Hope I'm wrong.

I think it was just saved, cause it was the first year of issue.
It's a great buy for $5.
Lunchbox they should grade that MS, that is a dazzler.

 

The rim dings will probably land this coin in a details slab.

 

Definitely a business strike. Though the stars are not always complete in proof strikes, they are always much sharper than business strikes. I have a N/C proof around here somewhere, I'll see if I can find an image.

 

Interesting, I always thought it was AU because of the stars but just checked Photograde and they have MS coins with flat struck stars. Thanks for the info.

 

I couldn't find any images of my no cents, but here's the 83 with cents proof. The obverse scratch is on the slab.
