I voted details for the filled hole damage at 12:00 on the obverse.

I'll go with 35 and no hole.

If it’s not details for an old cleaning ( I think it should be acceptable) then I’d say xf40.

    40. Tough date. I bet they ignored that "hen peck."

Curiously, it appears that some are posting about what their guesses are, but not actually voting. I think it would help PF better compare our answers to the results from the TPGs if everyone’s votes were counted in the poll results.

I voted 30 (potential net grading for the hole)

I see no reason not to call it 40, or why it wouldn't straight-grade.

PS- I see no "hole". Just a little tickmark, or "hen peck" at 12:00, as @C-B-D called it. I'll bet it passed muster.

I'm at 40 a few small issues easily over looked due to date and mm.

I was teetering between 35 and 40. I voted 35, though it would be appropriate in either holder.

Agreed. I too was sitting on the 35/40 fence, though I came down on the 40 side of it.

I know you of all people must see the gaping hole in the coin. The more you enlarge it, the bigger it gets. :wideyed:

I guess I don't know much about grading this type, or any early American coinage really. But I'm learning, and listening.

VF-35. It's little too beat-up to call it an EF-40 IMO. I'd like to see the EF-40 maintained, not watered down.

The strikes are so all over the place with these that it’s tough to read this range without being able to tilt and see the surfaces and see if that’s wear on the stars or an incomplete strike. The more I look at this one I see 35.
