*Obverse scratches are on the slab @ 11-1 & 4:00, light hairlines at 9 and in the center on the reverse are also on the slab. I haven't attributed this yet so I'm all ears on that one. Cropped the slabs out of the slab shots to give that perspective as well:
These older coppers are way out of my league. I have only gut instinct to go with. I would hazard a guess of XF-45 with a shot at AU-50 on that one.
No telling what the slab grade is. Probably AU. Looking at the reverse, I'd be more at XF40 than 45. The grading for late dates is pretty strict.
I'm terrible with old copper but I'm going to say XF45. To me...the color looks a little funny (I see reside of some kind around some of the details). Makes me wonder if it had an old cleaning or was recolored at some point. But again, I'm terrible with these coins so I could be totally wrong.
Thanks for that- I had been wondering about the flatness of the stars considering the higher grade, so if that's correct it would make sense as the N-8's in MS that I've viewed share the same feature.
That seems to be an approprite NGC grade for the coin. By EAC standards, it would be 40ish, depending on what the coin actually looks like outside of the slab.
If I recall correctly, an AU grade by EAC standards isn't even possible without luster present so that sounds about right.
