What’s your ideas about the grade of this coin? It’s an 1839 Seated Quarter and I believe it’s an Extra Long Claws variety.

Is it really slabbed? it looks low MS and worth $1,000-$2,000 if real just saying.

Guy is asking MS 63 money for it I’d be more willing to pay it if I thought the extra long claws was worth a premium.

The coin has been dipped quite a bit. I imagine it straight graded, but the luster is somewhat muted. I would grade it MS 60, as a result of the dip. Personally, I don’t think I would pay MS 63 money for it.

The weakness on the eagle's left leg is strike weakness and a look at PCGS Coinfacts shows it on other 1839 quarters graded UNC.

I'll go 62. Very nice coin, if a little overdipped.

The coin looks too dull to me to be graded MS-62. Once you get to the AU and Mint State grades, mint luster is very important.

I have an 1838 quarter, which is the same type. This coin is NGC graded AU-58. You can compare it with the piece you are considering.

It doesn't even have to do all that much with luster.
Look at the coin you are thinking of buying.
Obv: face , breast, thigh, and knees, among other areas are flat and show wear. There is also a halo around the devices.
Rev: Beak, neck feathers, shield, leg claws and branch are all flat.
This coin is AU55 at best.

It looks like the "very long claws" variety in the Briggs book, so a specialist might pay a premiium. Looks AU 55 ish to me, kind of washed out from dipping. Strike weakness on the lower left rev, don't know if that is typical of the issue. Personally, even if it is a rare variety, I would hold out for a more attractive, original example.

I don't think its certified, people put GTG all the time for not slabbed coins by a mistake and they don't know what it actually means.
