That is a beautiful example of one of the most interesting issues (imo) in American classic coins. AU55?
Dang Larry, you had a really good FUN show! You made out like a bandit. This is by far the most difficult one to grade (you're going to get guesses all over the board). I really don't see any wear at all on this coin. So, I'm looking for discoloration of the high points, and luster disturbed in the fields - and I'm not really seeing that either. If this is circulated, it's a 58+. But, I think this one is UNC. Based on the somewhat dull luster and the amount of marks I'm seeing, I am going to guess this is graded 61. (As you well know, telling AU vs UNC is extremely difficult from pictures). Beautiful coin, especially with those amazing die cracks. This is clearly the GR-1 (the most common variety for the date), but it is a VERY late die state. Fascinating coin, Larry.
Well, there's a bit of a difference between those grades, eh? Heritage has only sold one in 66.... for $130,000. See the gorgeous coin here: https://coins.ha.com/itm/reeded-edg...-30481.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515
Yes there certainly is. Originally I used the PCGS Photograde to arrive at the 66. But then I checked the auction results for the January FUN show, thinking Larry might have picked it up there. Anyway, with only three listed, the highest grade was AU-53.
Wow ld beautiful Half. I think I see the slightest of wear. I am going with AU58. But wouldn't be surprised to see a low MS.
Beautiful coin! I would not know how to grade her, but I can compare it to mine which was graded EF45. Your example is far superior, not to speak of the gorgeous toning. AU58 (???) Congratulations.
