Old NGC holder. 20 something years ago. I think it's an O109a. The holder calls it a footless F. Wondering if that adds anything to the value. You can't hurt my feelings. All opinions are welcome.

This looks like a VF 30 to me.

I'll guess VF20 is what its old holder says. That half dollar is a beast of a coin!

Would NGC show a problem on the slab 20 years ago or would they bag it?;)

NGC would have bagged it, and with a slab this old one should have reasonable confidence in the accuracy of NGC's opinion. That makes this a pretty attractive coin as Busties go. :)

O-109 is characterized, among other things, by the missing right serif on the F. The O-109a subvariety is partly defined by the die crack from the E in UNITED over the top of STATES, making ldhair's attribution correct. This is more common than the earlier uncracked O-109, but as an honest R.3 not exactly "common." I read an auction writeup at Heritage where the writer claimed that these were easily found and all the Condition Census examples were Mint State, yet they've never actually offered a Mint State example....

It values at a significant premium to the more common 1807 varieties, but not greater than some others (O-110a for example). I'm thinking it has a solid case for VF and a street value of ~$800.

VF25 Obv nicer than Rev, although both have bit of flattening weakness. Otherwise, VF30? Beautiful coin.

    That's a beauty Larry, I'll guess VF-25.

I would agree with this. Reverse has typical strike weakness due to design.

Excellent write up, and the only reason I am typing this is to keep up with the thread because I'm curious. So everyone skip this post.

UnCommonCents was the first to nail it. NGC gave it VF-20.
    Thank you SuperDave. Great information.
