MS 66 .. with a rarity grade bump...the cheek appears to have a scratch which is likely market acceptable
Looks mint state to me, but I don't know what that is on Liberty's face. Could be a scratch or a planchet flaw, looks to small to be an adjustment mark. If it is a scratch, I'm certain that it would result in a net grade lower than what the rest of the coin deserves. I'm going to say MS61. Btw, if you are going to use Heritage photos for this little exercise you have going, perhaps you could avoid using the beauty shots which are almost always overexposed and can easily hide flaws.
In my estimation, the cheek scratch doesn't detract from the overall eye appeal. I'm in the 64 boat as well.
NGC graded this one AU-58*. The luster is full, and there is a little wear on the face and shoulder on the obverse, as well as the leg of the eagle. This coin is very well-struck. The scratch on the chin bothered me, but I will give it the benefit of the doubt and call it an adjustment mark, which is what the folks at Heritage called it. It sold for a little over $35,000, which is in line with the grade. Again, I agree with the grade. This coin is a really solid AU-58.
Wow! From the photos it looks at least 63....the Heritage photo people sure know how to pretty up a coin, lol
good for NGC for calling it right as AU58. I would not be surprised if that coin were cracked out and resubmitted it would garner an MS grade at either service. To me, it looks dipped and retoned, not a crime, as untouched 220 year old silver is generally very dark and unattractive.
