Just got this coin in the mail today. I paid $227 from a seller with 100% feedback and based on the pic I thought I was getting at least an MS-63 and perhaps better. As it stands there is a fairly obvious rim ding above the U in united. Now that I take a second look at the auction I can see it in the picture. How bad do you think this is, and is it my fault for not spotting it in the first place?
Here is the auction link, it doesn't look like the picture shows it that well. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220376066966&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
If i'm not happy with a eBay purchase I usually send it back and get my money. I advise you to do the same if your're not happy about the rim ding.
By all means, as weryon said. But for what it's worth, I'd say that coin would grade 63 all day long from what I can see in the pic.
Which means the seller overstated the grade. I'll go along with -63. But the seller said Gem BU. Doesn't that start at -65?
According to the PCGS website (which I've read is a bit overpriced) that particular year in MS-63 should go for $230. I was expecting a strong MS-63 and really hoping for 64 or 65 as the pictures looked promising. Shouldn't he have mentioned the rim ding?
Greysheet says $175 for an MS-63. Coin Values says $300. IMO, if it's a MS-63 then you paid a fair price. But the bottom line is you are the one that has to be satisfied. If you are not, return it for a refund. I would contact the seller first and let him know your intentions. Then to make it official I would file a SNAD. MAKE SURE YOU RETURN IT WITH SIGNATURE REQUIRED. CYA! Do all this very politely and if he gets nasty, don't contact him anymore. Let eBay/PayPal handle it. Save ALL messages. When it come to feedback, if there is a full refund gracefully given, either a positive or no f/b would be appropriate. If it gets nasty then you have the neutral or negative f/b options.
Can you showa better picture of the rim ding? From what I see so far it looks normal with no excessiive damage that I would call a rim ding. But basically it still comes down to if you don't like it return it. You paid 63 money for for what you said was a 63 coin that you hoped would be a rip, a 64 or 65 coin. Sorry you didn't get a rip you got what you paid for. Now are you satisfied with that?
I'm thinking it may qualify as a bag mark, especially considering it's a GSA Morgan in its holder. :thumb: Very nice Carson City Morgan! :eat: Ribbit
If you're not happy with the coin you should return it, if the GSA container is what you were interested in then keep it, or return it and look for one that suits you better. Personally, where I live one can buy these for $150-175 for 82-84 in just about most of the shops.
I told him my problem with the coin and he was very courteous and told me to return it if I wasn't satisfied. Anyone with time on their hands want to walk me through the process with ebay. I live in South Korea, how would I send it back from overseas?
To the person that can get these for $150 a pop, I would recommend buying all you can get and selling them on the bay. Even the terrible MS61s seem to get around 200 bucks in auctions recently.
Can anyone help me with this? I have been able to turn up much with a google search. I paid with paypal, so according to what I did find a SNAD wouldn't be appropriate. If a seller is cooperative do you file a dispute with paypal or do you simply trust him to return the money? If I should file a dispute, how do you go about doing that?
Others may know of something else, but I don't know that you have much choice but to trust him. Just like when you buy something, the seller will not ship it out to you until he gets his money - you trusted him to do that. He's not going to refund your money until he gets the coin back.
I would ship it back and trust him to refund. Try to make sure you send it back with delivery confirmation or whatever they have in S Korea that provides a way of confirming the delivery online. Then if you don't receive the refund in a timely manner you can still file a dispute with paypal if you have to. You have I believe 45 days to do so.
Sounds like things got worked out ok. I really don't see anything to worry about in the photos but once something bothers you on a coin it always will so it's probably best that you are returning it.
