Well, this has been a bad week for me! Two ebay rip-offs in one week. Earlier this week, I had the George Washington commemorative half that had permanent fingerprints all over it inside the plastic casing. Today I get my sacagawea I'd ordered for my type set. I guess I should have known it was too good to be true, but they had a 2003 S Sac pictured that I bid on and won. The ad said (in the fine print) buyer might receive a different date than shown (I didn't see that until after I got my coin!). The coin arrived today. It was a very average condition, actually somewhat scuffed up 2000 D Sac! Big f-in deal! I could have grabbed one of those out of a post office vending machine! :headbang: To add insult to injury, the seller included a "bonus coin." A 2006 Jefferson nickel. So what?!?! Again, thanks for selling me pocket change for a premium! I have contacted this seller about a return. This is the first time I've actually tried a return on e-bay so we'll see how this all shakes out I guess. I think it is very deceptive to use a proof photo, then send out coins from rolls. The ad indicates that the coin was taken from a "mint set" handled using cotton gloves. Slick double-speak that I took to mean it had been popped out of a proof set. I feel like such an idjit!
You should give that braindead vendor a negative.Hopefully, the idiot will end up getting NARU'd off eBay soon. Aidan.
The seller is granniescoins. I hope this truly is some decrepit, financially strapped old lady so at least I can have the satisfaction of helping the elderly! I think the scam is, she charged $5.50 for shipping and handling. IF I can get a refund, I guarantee they won't reimburse the shipping, so she gets to keep a couple bucks on the transaction either way.
Hey maybe she will send Ellie Mae after you and give you a good ole boy fanny whoopin.. I ran into something similar a year or so ago. Ebay powerseller selling Franklin halves that were SMOKIN hot. very nice pictures of coins. not the ones he was selling however. I did get a refund but like you, Ate shipping two ways.
"granniescoins" 13 negs this past month. I wonder if she was the Savanna lovely and is now a grandmother.
I think, this is the listing in question... http://cgi.ebay.com/LOOK-Sacagawea-...6QQihZ015QQcategoryZ11983QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
skinnyeddie, No offense, but that doesn't look like "fine print" to me. Unless that wasn't the auction you bid on. This has happened to me also. There will always be bad sellers on E-Bay. Unless I have dealt with the seller before, I'll check with the people here on Coin Talk before I make a purchase. Good luck in the future. swick
Man, to me that is really sneaky IMHO. Puts it in there so subtly, but I don't think you can do much, if anything. lol, Maybe. You never know. Good one. Phoenix
Always read the full description very very carefully (3 or 4 times), I never buy anything from Ebay unless seller is describing everything, like the exact coin date, mint mark, condition, refund allowed, postage etc. I have a whole check list of requirements the auction must meet even before I consider a purchase. Ask questions if theres something you don't see in the listing. And finally, always ... always check and read the feedback.
Yep. And the other big one... the listing MUST contain the phrase "coin pictured is the one you will receive" - or something to that effect.
Yes, you folks are all correct. I think I will have to chalk this up as lesson learned and be glad I'm only out a few bucks. I know it wasn't really "fine print" in the ad per se, but it's one thing to say you'll get a different date, and another thing entirely to not point out that you are selling circulation coins instead of proof coins. It appears I am better off just swallowing the hit since dear old granny posts raging negative feedback on everybody who complains on her and I've still got 100% positive after years of ebaying. Not worth the time and hit on shipping and my ebay rep to send back a coin I got hosed on for a couple bucks.
