Dear Board, Greetings! I am new to this forum. This is my first post. I have just read the rules and looking forward to contributing. I hail from Australia and have Greek heritage (both sides) which explains my interest in ancient coins. I go by the moniker peterpil19 elsewhere for those who may have bumped into me in other places. My avatar is of one of my favourite coins of all time, an Alexander Tetradrachm from Temnos, which sadly I parted with over a decade ago. I have a demanding full-time job (don't we all) and enjoy the peace of losing myself in my collection and researching new coins when not spending time with my family (wife and 10 month old daughter). Recently, I have become fond of coin photography. Thank you to Doug who has generously offered me helpful advice on the subject and takes the best photos of ancient coins, probably in the world. Thank you Doug for also pointing out this forum to me. My collecting interests are generally broad (probably due to lack of self-constraint) but I have a particular fondness for 1) Drachms and Tetradrachms in the name and types of Alexander III; 2) Sestertii with exceptional portraits; 3) recently, coinage in the name of Faustina I; and 4) recently, bronze coinage of Philip II of Macedon (horseman reverse) - I decided I will attempt to build a collection of every known control mark (if that is even possible). I look forward to meeting you on this forum. Here is a photo I took recently which I like. Regards, Peter
Hi Peterpil19! Welcome to CT. Your coin is beautiful. The photograph shows it well. Now I'm going to sleep. I'm on the East Coast USA! (Simply loved Canberra, by the way. The crispest purest air my lungs have ever enjoyed).
Welcome greekandromancoins, that's what we need here on cointalk a few more Aussies to balance it out a bit, what state you from?
Wellcome Peter from Adelaide , Not everybody overhere at CT have a full time dayjob, a couple of us are old & pensionados , like me, I live in the Netherlands, my brother emigrated to Sydney in the sixties. I adopted your Temnos tet avatar and recently bought this Philipp II bronze
Welcome to Coin Talk @greekandromancoins Peter! I am looking forward to your contributions to the Ancients threads! I really like your collecting focus!
Welcome, you have come to the right place. I like the white background in your photo. Did you shoot it that way or add it using photo editing software? John
Well, it looks like I'm late to the party, but welcome @greekandromancoins. I'll be looking forward to seeing your coins. I purchased the following Philip II coins as a lot. Very inexpensive lot, but each one has a different control mark.
Welcome Peter! I think your Philip II pic is excellent and look forward to your coin posts here on CT. I just visited Adelaide for the first time last month with my wife and our 4-year old son. We had a great time wandering about town, pigging out in the evenings on whatever was being grilled up at the Tasting Australia Town Square. We also enjoyed our drives out to Barossa Valley and the Adelaide Hills region... Mount Lofty Botanic Park was unforgettable. We'll definitely be back!
I'm glad you enjoyed our home town. I used to think it was boring. The best stuff is in the Adelaide Hills and Barossa Valley. I return to Adelaide several times each year.

Welcome @greekandromancoins I only have one Alexander tet, this lifetime issue from Amphipolis. My favourite attribute of this coin is the Janus headed vase on the reverse.
