Greek Silver 300-200 BC - My First Ancient

    I've done it now! I've gotten my feet wet and I like it!

    Bought this at the show today. According to the information on the card- Ancient Greece 300-200 BC; silver drachm; minted at Appolonia in Illyria (modern day Albania)

    Very nice. The Greeks looked favorably upon the Illyrians who reminded them of themselves in the olden times. Alexander the Great's mother was an Illyrian.

    The "stellate pattern" has been much investigated and debated. It may be representative of the Doors of Alkinoos from from The Odyssey.
