Ive had this for a long while now but finally asked for help to ID it. Greeks arent my area but I have always wanted one of these, im OK with some wear. Got it cheap Alexander The Great, Macedonian Kingdom, 336 - 323 B.C. AR Drachm 310-300 BC O: Herakles' head right, clad in Nemean lion scalp headdress tied at neck. R: ΑΛΕΞΑΝ∆ΡΟΥ, Zeus seated left, right leg drawn back, eagle in right, long vertical scepter in left, X within Ω left, KH under throne. Mylasa mint 310-300 BC 4.1g 16mm Price 2480
Mat, I snagged one about a year ago for the same reason. Mine looks very similar to yours, with just a touch more wear. The price you list confuses me though. Should there be a decimal point in there? I got mine for somewhere around $25. Maybe the Mylasa mint is more rare than mine? I'm not good enough with these to identify mint locations. Thanks, -snewman
The "price 2480" is the reference # for this particular type. After finding out which type this is, I didnt see very many of then on sites I looked at for this particular one with the "X within Ω left" One example I found on acsearch said it was "very rare" so I dunno :/
Oh.. Price is his last name.. Like Sear sg6731 or the like. Mine looks more like a Kappa (K) or an Chi (X) where yours has the Omega with a Chi inside. Thanks for clarifying for me! -snewman
Correct. This is what mine would look like if it was EF, lol. http://www.acsearch.info/ext-record.html?id=22620 Use that site above with the Kappa or Chi and see if it matches yours from the search.
Thanks! I've always used Wildwinds, but I'll check out acsearch. Also turns out that there is a cross under the chair on mine. I'll see what I can find out about it.
Turns out that mine is Price 1823, Muller 808, with a KA on the side and under the throne, the cross was a Φ. Mine doesn't appear to be all that rare. Thanks for the tip!
