    Any help in identifying this?
    Appears to be dated 1617.

I know it is devalued with the hole in it, I just want to identify it. Is it currency or something else?

Well I have partially answered my own question.

It looks like an 1817 Russian Ruble (so much for my identification of languages!) although not in very good shape.

    Any other comments welcomed

Its a Russian 1817 5 Rouble in gold minted in St. Petersburg I think. If its real gold then its just very very worn...or its cast.
