First off, I don't think this is a proof set. I think it's a really nice UNC aftermarket set. It's definitely not regular proof quality, and the 2-3 matte proof sets the mint made that year have quite a bit more detail than my set (don't get me wrong - I'd be OVERJOYED to find one of those matte proof sets!)

But anyway, here is my set. First shots of it in the Capital Plastics-style holder, then the coins themselves. They seem to have a patina from the case and a few have an irregular toning pattern.

Total cost for this gorgeous set, including holder? TWO DOLLARS. Who says you can't get good deals any more?

Now, has anyone seen a similarly packaged set like this before? I did a Google search of the regular places and didn't see a similar set...maybe someone more experienced has seen one before.

    Thanks, and enjoy!

You shouldn't have trouble doubling your money. Good pick up.

Nice grab for $2. Nearly all the coins have nice toning too.

I believe I could do a bit better than that. ;)

For now, though, it goes into the hoard.

I'm pretty sure you're legally and morally required to buy that set for that price. The holder alone is probably worth $5-10 dollars.

Reminds me of my great deal ($5) from earlier this year - 1965 South African proof set:

Love those sets. Have a few I picked up from a forum member (either here or from the NGC boards.) Can get some crazy toning on the silver.

Yes, I did feel a moral obligation to pick it up, and fought the urge to do a freeze-frame jump in the sky (like those old Toyota commercials). Was more difficult to avoid when I picked up a BU Lincoln Short Set (1941-mid 60's) in an old Library of Coins album that had a nice little Large S 1941 S. But I did my best.
