I am new to this forum and need some input.

I found a 2000-P South Carolina state quarter with what appears to be grease struck through both sides.

    Is it worth anything?

    Thanks.

Looks more like post mint damage. There doesn't appear to be any degridation of the design. When a coin is struck through grease, the grease effectively prevents some of the design from being imparted on the blank planchet from the die.

Did you find this coin in circulation? Or from an unopened roll of South Carolina quarters?

It is a quarter from circulation. I have never seen a coin with (what appears to be grease) on it. The year "2000" has no discoloration on the year but behind the year.

Most of where the spotting is the written items are still clad and not covered in grease. It is as if the blank coin got greased and then struck.

    Thanks for your input.

When a coin is truck through grease the grease is on the die - not on the planchet. I am fairly certain that is not grease on your coin. It does appear that the coin is fairly well worn and that it has been stained by something in the course of circulation.

Thanks so much for the information. I have so much to learn. Wishful thinking that I had something special.
